Sherwood

       Welcome to Sherwood Class!

       Mrs Burke and Mrs Hymas

Welcome back, we are all excited to be back and are looking forward to a great new year ahead.

Our first topic this year is centred on a range of stories and fairy tales.

In English, after reading familiar and some not so familiar stories we will discuss and describe a range of characters from the stories. We will explore if a character is a good or a bad character and use adjectives to describe them. We will also be looking at what makes a story; how to write a beginning, middle and end. We will be looking to recreate our own character and setting descriptions from the stories we have read.

In Maths, we will be at number and exploring place value.  We will be using our place value and number facts to solve a range of problems. When solving number problems we will using a range of apparatus to support us with solving, such as objects, number lines and hundred squares.

If you could continue to support your children's learning then please practise their times tables and reading at home 3 times a week.

Thank you.

  • PE days are:

    Indoors: Thursday

    Outdoors: Friday

Please ensure your child's PE kit contains shorts AND jogging bottoms, PE t-shirt, PE jumper, socks (if they are wearing tights) and trainers (velcro if they cannot tie their own shoelaces). Long hair must be tied back and earrings should be removed.

If you have any PE kit or trainers your child has grown out of then any donations of old PE kit would be gratefully accepted.

Reading

We ask children to read at least 3 times per week in order to earn reading stars on our chart. If the children's reading diaries are signed showing this then the children earn reading their stars and special incentives and prizes. If the children receive their reading stars each week of every half term then they earn an overall reward. Happy reading! Reading is a huge priority in our class and we aim to progress the children enjoyment of reading and their comprehension skills.

Education City

Each child in Sherwood class have their own log in for Education City. We have put specific activities for each Maths and English group so log into Education City, select the class 'Sherwood' and then your child's learning group to access target-related activities.

The Legendary Dinosaur Dance

Anyone that is in Sherwood class knows that dance, singing and expression is important! We encourage physical movement in our learning as it stimilates and helpes the children to engage, we can use the 'Koo Koo Kanga Roo' dance videos as a reward at the end of the day and the children love choosing their favourite and dancing along.
The Dinosaur Stomp is a favourite. Adults must join in as well!

Look back with pride and forward with confidence
