Snowy Weather

Snowy Weather Procedures

We understand that school closures can affect local businesses, childcare arrangements, and your ability to work. For this reason, we always aim to remain open, and it is rare - even in severe weather - for Peafield Lane to close.

Please assume that school is open unless we tell you otherwise. Absences due to snow cannot be authorised if the school is open.

At times, we may adjust the start of the school day to support safe travel. For example, we may delay opening or relax uniform expectations so that children can wear walking boots or warm jumpers. Any changes will be communicated via Class Dojo as early as possible.

Although uncommon, closures may occasionally be necessary. The Head Teacher and Site Manager inspect the site at around 6:30 am when a closure is possible. We may close for two main reasons:

  • Insufficient staff are able to reach school to supervise pupils safely.
  • Litton Road is unsafe to drive on, making access dangerous.

If closure is likely, we will send a Class Dojo message before 7:00 am. If there is no message, the school is open. Please check Class Dojo rather than calling, as calls may block the line for emergencies.

The school will never close during the school day. We may post a Class Dojo message to say you can collect your child early, but if you cannot get to us, that is absolutely fine - no child will be left unattended. We have enough nearby staff to supervise children safely, even if we need to combine classes.

Once children arrive on site, we take full responsibility for their safety until you collect them. Travel to and from school remains the responsibility of parents and carers. While our site manager ensures school walkways are safe, we are unable to grit paths through Peafield Park or pavements along Litton Road. These areas are maintained by Mansfield District Council.

All communication will be shared through Class Dojo, so it is essential that you have access and notifications enabled.
